The Sumter County Sheriff's Office contracts with HomeWAV which involves kiosks and tablets in housing units for inmates to use to send and receive written communications with loved ones. This digital mail system further streamlines SCSO operations and ensures the safety and well-being of inmates and staff, for a nominal fee.

Schedule Calls Without Hassle

Looking to schedule an on-site or lobby visit? HomeWAV’s software allows you to schedule without any assistance from jail staff. Skip the hassle of getting visit approval from the facility, and your loved one can directly approve the visit based on their availability. No prior scheduling is needed for video or phone calls.

One option that the Sumter County Detention Center offers to contact an incarcerated loved one is the the e-messaging through HomeWAV for quicker and more convenient communication. eMessaging allows family and friends to communicate with an incarcerated loved one using email like messaging.

How do I create an account?

You can create an account online or through our mobile inmate visitation app.

For computer users,go to homewav.com to sign up. We suggest you use a Chrome or Firefox internet browser for the best user experience.

For mobile users, please download the free HomeWAV mobile app via the app store. It is available for iOS and Android users.

In order to set up your account, you’ll need to upload a profile picture of yourself that is head-on, from the shoulders up, and with no filters or alterations to the image. You’ll also need to upload a clear, readable picture of your government-issued ID. Acceptable IDs include your license, state ID, or passport.

How can I add funds to my account?

Log into yourHomeWAVaccount and click “Add ‘Talk to Me’ Funds.” Enter the number of dollars you want to add to your account and click “update.” Choose how you’d like to pay; we accept credit, debit, or prepaid cards.

You can add funds to your loved one’sHomeWAVaccount via the website, on our mobile app, throughPayNearMeat a local store, or through our automated phone payment system.

How can I tell if my account has been approved?

Once your account has been approved by the detention facility, you will receive a notification every time your incarcerated loved one logs into aHomeWAVkiosk.

In most cases, your account will be reviewed within a 24-hour time period, and the review process typically doesn’t take more than two days. When you open the HomeWAV app or log in, your loved one will receive a notification that you are available, and they may initiate a video call.

All message and photos are subject to review by the facility. If a message or photos are rejected or the inmate reply is rejected you will receive a reject message in your inbox with the reason for the rejection.

If postal mail is your only option, you may send post cards or pictures to the following address:

The inmate's full name and a return address must be clearly printed on the outside of the envelope or postcard. With the exception of legal mail, all inmate postal mail will be inspected. Upon approval, all inmate postal mail will be scanned into the inmate's HomeWAV's account. The inmate will be able to view the scanned mail using the HomeWAV. After being scanned in, the inmates physical mail will be placed in their property bag for them to retrieve at the time of release.

Legal mail shall be clearly identifiable and marked appropriately as legal mail. All legal mail should be mailed to the address listed above.
